house will be our's in a day and a half. this is still hard to believe. i was there last night and took some photos, which say to me....still a work in progress. i hope most is done before friday, but some of these things are still happening....
plumbing is done. bonus.
the overhang on the island got cut wrong...they missed one side, and added too much to another. in the end we had to do away with the overhang all together and return our bar stools. BOO. but not being able to open the fridge door when someone is sitting at the island? kind of a problem. so now they have to move the lights over the island since they were centered with the granite.
shower is looking good, but electricity would be nice, as well...
i could use some sides for the tub
paint touch-ups would be nice
it seems every time i show up there are new problems. i don't think we've encountered one vendor who hasn't screwed up at least one thing. most of them are out of our hands at this point. the stone people switched stone colors, putting my nice warm tones on the exterior and the cool, grey/deep red tones around the fireplace. both look very nice but won't match the paint colors i chose as well. little things get irksome. true, no one would know but me. but then again, i'm the one who will live there for the next 20 years.
deck is mostly done, although i was bummed to discover that although we chose the same measurements for it as we had built on our last house, it won't be the same seating area. since the slider bumps out, we lost about 3 feet since they measured out from where the railings meet the house, not from the door. grr.
most bathrooms are looking fairly complete
i think our light fixtures look like nipples. i can't get this out of my head every time i see them.
oh my, it will be challening to keep the kiddos out of this mud mountain for the next month. spring, oh spring, please come. so we can have sod and paint and a front porch.
despite the mad rush to the finish and all the mistakes being made along the way, it's fun to see our home taking form. it's wonderful to have an apartment full of boxes, which makes this feel more transitional than annoying. i can't believe this weekend we'll be sleeping in our new home. it was worth the wait!
