Last weekend we pulled together a complicated conglomeration of babysitters to allow us both to go to Chicago for the wedding of our old friend Swarup (best man in our wedding). He and his partner of 11 years finally tied the knot, and it was such a fun weekend with lots of old Drake friends (and lots of new ones). After the rehearsal dinner on Friday we stayed up WAY too late, in classic Doopey style, as he dragged us from bar to bar until they all closed. No matter that we kept saying, "You are getting Married tomorrow, dude, you gotta go to bed..." It had been a long time since I stayed up until 3:30. The next day was as beautiful as a day could be... mid-70s, sunny, light breeze. Colleen and Logan accompanied us on the trip and we all took to walking the Lake Michigan shoreline. I keep trying to find a GPS feature online that can tell me exactly how far we walked. I'm sure it's 10 miles, at least. From about Lincoln Park to Navy Pier, feet in sand, and on and on.... around Navy Pier, than into the city to catch the train and back from the train.... let's just say, my knees needed to be iced that evening. I can't think of a better way to spend a day with friends. And I can't do THAT with my kids, so it was well spent. The wedding that evening was heavenly, with great people and great food and an OPEN bar. Just sayin. Loved the whole thing.
